Survival of Identity and Masculinity in Couples: A Critical Study
Name of Author :
Sherin F. S
Abstract:
The interplay between identity and masculinity within intimate relationships has Emerged as a crucial concern in contemporary gender and literary studies. This paper examines how masculinity is constructed…, challenged, and redefined within couples, particularly under the pressures of modernity, emotional expectations, and shifting gender roles. Drawing on theoretical insights and literary representations, especially from John Updike, the study argues that masculinity does not disappear within relationships but evolves through negotiation, vulnerability, and adaptation. The survival of identity in couples is thus understood not as resistance to change but as a dynamic process of transformation.
