The Concept of Śabda-Brahman in the Philosophy of Bhartṛhari: A Philosophical and Linguistic Analysis
Name of Author :
Jyothi Lekshmi T.M
Abstract:
The Sanskrit grammatical tradition combines precise language study with deep philosophical ideas. Among its prominent scholars, Bhartṛhari holds a central place. He explains the concept of Śabda-Brahman, which sees language as the ultimate reality. This paper examines the structure of Sanskrit, the importance of grammar, the contributions of major grammarians, and the philosophical insights of Bhartṛhari. It further analyzes how language functions not merely as a communicative tool but as the foundation of cognition and existence.
