Name of Author :
Rajesh Kumar Naryal
Abstract:
The Chamunda Devi Temple, located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, represents one of the most significant centers of Shakti worship in North India. Rooted in mythological traditions and evolving through medieval political patronage, the temple has developed into a major pilgrimage and socio cultural hub. This paper examines the historical origins, mythological narratives, architectural development, and socio religious transformation of the temple from its early formation to its modern role in the 21st century. It highlights the temples role in regional identity, tourism, economy, and cultural continuity.
