The Impact of Globalization on Labour Rights and Working Conditions in Nigeria and India
Name of Author :
Prof. Simeon Peter Olusola Gbeleyi, Dr. Shailja Vasudeva
Abstract:
This research paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of globalization on labour rights and working conditions in Nigeria and India. As two of the largest developing economies, both countries have undergone significant economic transformations due to liberalization, foreign direct investment (FDI), and integration into global supply chains. While globalization has contributed to economic growth and employment generation, it has also exacerbated labour market vulnerabilities, including informalization, wage suppression, and erosion of labour protections. This study explores the socio economic, legal, and institutional dimensions of globalizations impact on labour, with a focus on the role of multinational corporations, national policy frameworks, and international labour standards. Through a comparative lens, the paper identifies systemic governance challenges and proposes policy recommendations to ensure equitable and sustainable labour practices in the globalized economy.
